On Sept. 12, 2001, the five anti-terrorists known worldwide as the Cuban Five were arrested by the FBI in pre-dawn raids in the Miami area. Despite their mission of monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations to prevent attacks on Cuba, the Five were subjected to a political prosecution by the U.S. government, and given lengthy prison sentences.

In spite of the cruel and unjust punishment, Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio, Fernando and René have heroically resisted U.S. government pressure and extreme conditions in prison. Their cause has inspired a national and worldwide movement for their freedom.

Three of the Five are currently in the midst of their final appeals process. Three of the Five’s attorneys will speak about the legal case as it stands, as well as their 13-year dedicated involvement in defending the Cuban Five.

The attorneys have filed various legal briefs in mid-August, by the attorneys for Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, for their Habeas Corpus appeals.

René González is scheduled to be released from Marianna Federal Correctional Institute in Florida, October 7, 2011. His attorney Phil Horowitz will speak about his release and what lies ahead for René González.

The National Committee and supporters in more than 375 committees for the Five worldwide, continue to mobilize and fight for their immediate freedom.
